If you haven’t been to Deer Run lately, you’re missing out. The golf course is in the best shape ever, thanks to the hard work of the greens crew and Superintendent Dave Adcock. The ownership and management have diverted funds to the maintenance department with the goal of course improvements and beautification.

A new hole has been opened for play, making Deer Run the only 19 hole, par 73 golf course in the area. The new par 3 hole plays from an elevated tee, across a scenic pond to a generous green. Our new scorecard reflects the addition to the golf course, and now stretches out to 6300 yards of challenging golf. Other course improvements include the reduction of high natural grass areas (find your ball anywhere!), addition of beautiful flowers throughout, all grass tee driving range (never hit off of matts!!), and rebuilt Zoysia tees on holes 6 and 7. This year also has seen new Yamaha carts, as well as expanded services including: bar and grill; beverage cart; banquette; and Henry-Griffitts club fitting by Matt Gordon and Bob Beckelman, PGA.

Have your event in our convenient banquette room, or let our professional staff host your golf tournament. Whatever reason you choose, from tournaments to a friendly round, come out and enjoy Deer Run “new and improved”!!!

Question: Why Are Masters Champions Presented with a Green Jacket?

Each year, the winner of The Masters is presented with the famous “Green Jacket.” Slipping on the green jacket is the golden moment for many winners of the tournament. But how did a green jacket come to be such a big deal? What is the story behind the vaunted Green Jacket?
Answer: Let’s face it: if you saw someone walking around in public in a shamrock green jacket, you’d probably think that person was severely fashion-challenged.But the Green Jacket presented to the Masters champion is one beautiful piece of outerwear. The tradition of the Green Jacket at Augusta National Golf Club dates to 1937. That year, members of the club wore green jackets during the tournament so that fans in attendance could easily spot them if a fan needed to ask questions.

According to the tournament’s official website, Masters.com:

“Jackets were purchased from the Brooks Uniform Company, New York City … Members were not initially enthusiastic about wearing the warm, green coat. Within several years, a lightweight, made-to-order Jacket was available from the Club’s Golf Shop. … The single breasted, single vent Jacket’s color is ‘Masters Green’ and is adorned with an Augusta National Golf Club logo on the left chest pocket. The logo also appears on the brass buttons.”

Soon, the Green Jacket became the symbol of membership in the ultra-exclusive Augusta National Golf Club. And slipping a jacket onto the winner of The Masters – a tradition that began in 1949 – symbolized that golfer’s entry into the exclusive club of Masters champions.

White Ball Poem

In my hand I hold a ball….white and dimpled, rather small….

Oh , how bland it does appear….this harmless looking little sphere….

By its size I could not guess….the awesome strength it does possess….

But since I fell beneath it’s spell….I’ve wandered through the fires of hell..

My life has not been quite the same….Since I chose to play this stupid game….

It rules my mind for hours on end…A fortune it has made me spend….

It has made me swear and yell and cry….I hate myself and want to die….

It promises a thing called par….If I can hit straight and far ….

To master such a tiny ball….should not be very hard at all …

But my desires the ball refuses….and does exactly like it chooses….

It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies….and even disappears before my eyes….

Often it will take a whim….to hit a tree or take a swim….

With miles of grass on which to land….it finds a tiny patch of sand….

Then has me offering up my soul….if only it would find the hole….

It’s made me whimper like a pup….and swear that I will give it up….

And take a drink to ease my sorrow….but the ball knows….. I’ll be back tomorrow!!!!
